The Direct Aid Fund
In 2022, Lampblack will continue its commitment to provide $100 to a Black poet, storyteller, or essayist in need. If you identify as Black, if you write, if you could use a little help, please let us know.
Why direct aid?
Racial Equity. Community Action. Diversity of Thought. The Written Word. Lampblack was founded on these four principles last year amidst a global pandemic and civil protests. We believe that Black voices should be at the center of conversations about inequity and injustice in the literary community and at large. But too often Black writers are overcome by the hardships of being Black before we can make our voices heard. We’re here to ensure, in whatever way we can, that Black writers can continue speaking truth to power in their writing and in their lives.
How does it work?
Beginning July 1st, we will select one Black writer every other Wednesday from our application pool. Selections are made on an anonymous, random basis. For more information, please visit our FAQ page.
